With up to 88 million tonnes of food wasted annually in the EU, food waste is a serious environmental, social, and economic issue. School canteens, where up to 70 % of meals may be wasted, offer a unique opportunity to reduce waste and shape sustainable eating habits. The project aims to significantly reduce food waste in schools , find ways to valorize leftovers , engage stakeholders from private and public sector , and raise awareness about this challenge

REPLOID contributes to the FoodCIRCUS project by providing expertise in circular waste treatment technologies, specifically through the use of insect-based bioconversion. Our role involves the development, demonstration, and assessment of innovative methods to transform food waste from school canteens into valuable products], such as protein-rich insect biomass and organic fertilizer. We help ensure that the treatment processes are efficient, scalable, and environmentally sound], in line with bioeconomy principles.
